A surprisingly stubborn man though capable of making valid arguments for his side, Gregory often argued to his wits end with the people who misinterpreted the word of God. He was canonized by the Catholic Church following his death, becoming Saint Gregory the Bishop of Tours. He was well educated and had close ties to the Catholic Church, already destined for a life serving God. The grandson of Senator Georgius and son of Senator Florentius, Gregory of Tours came from a wealthy Gallo-Roman family. The book presents a very succinct account of the Franks from the time of creation to Gregory’s time, but it leaves out a lot of important history from other Franks of the period that did not consider themselves Catholic. The History of the Franks spans more than 6,000 years of history, tells hundreds of stories about kings, queens, bishops, princes, Jews (those encountered by Gregory), heretics (in particular the King of Spain), wars won and lost, and even the weather for certain years although all of this has been entwined with countless quotes from the Bible with the opinion of a man blinded by his faith and in all likelihood putting his own spin on some if not most of the events that aren’t direct quotes from the Bible.

Georgius Florentius, the Bishop of Tours, recounts all the years leading up to his becoming Bishop starting with the creation of Adam and Eve in the ten books of Historia Francorum (The History of the Franks).
